Even with a specialized image management program, categorizing a large number of pictures in separate folders can take a long time. Usually, this operation involves looking at each picture and moving it to the appropriate folder, which can be difficult to spot among other folders. This is where PhotoSift comes in. It looks and feels like any lightweight photo viewer, but it gives you the possibility of sorting your pictures much faster, with your keyboard. While viewing an image, you only need to press a button on the keyboard to send it to a specific folder instantly.

PhotoSift is freeware and it can be used on any modern Windows platform. The application is lightweight and you can have it up and running in no time. Its core components can be extracted from a 179 KB archive, without going through an installation process.

Pictures can be imported selectively, but you can also load entire folders. Alternatively, you can just drag and drop the files over the user interface. The general idea behind PhotoSift is quite simple. You have to view your pictures one by one and press certain keys to send them to other folders. The application will move your images instantly, without prompting you for anything. You can bind each letter or number key to any folder you want, in the application's general settings menu.

Other useful options can be found in the same settings menu. The application can be set to copy files, instead of moving them. Also, you can set it to automatically skip or overwrite files or append a number to their names, if they already exist in the destination folder.
Once you move a picture to a folder, the next image will be loaded on the interface automatically. You can navigate back and forth through your pictures with the arrow keys, without moving anything. Additionally, the application allows you to zoom and pan, rotate and flip images and perform other basic actions.

Pros

You can move your pictures to other folders instantly, with your keyboard, while sifting through them. The application can be set to copy or move files. You can also decide how it should react if a file already exists in a destination folder.

Cons

There are no serious drawbacks to mention. PhotoSift makes it possible to view pictures and sort them in different folders at the same time, with nothing more than a few keystrokes.
